An American man sentenced to 70 months in prison for involvement in $263 million cryptocurrency scam

BlockBeats News, April 26 — Evan Tangeman, a 22-year-old resident of California, was sentenced to 70 months in prison on Friday for participating in a crime that involved social engineering scams and home invasions to steal approximately $263 million worth of cryptocurrency from victims.

According to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Tangeman pleaded guilty in December 2025 to related charges and admitted to assisting members of the criminal organization in laundering at least $3.5 million in illegal funds. The DOJ stated that in addition to imprisonment, he was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
