A U.S. military fighter jet was shot down inside Iran.

According to reports from The New York Times and several other U.S. media outlets, a U.S. military fighter jet was shot down within Iran, and the whereabouts of the personnel on board are unknown. This is the first known loss of a U.S. military aircraft within Iran since the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. The reports, citing insiders, say that an urgent search-and-rescue operation is under way for the crew members of the U.S. fighter jet that crashed in Iran, and the U.S. is trying to find survivors before Iran does. Iran’s official media announced on the 3rd that a reward is being offered for the live capture of a U.S. fighter pilot who is said to have been shot down over Iran. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, citing insiders, reported that earlier that day, after a U.S. fighter jet was hit over Iran, the pilot ejected from the cockpit, and subsequent attempts by the U.S. to rescue the pilot were unsuccessful.
