“The question is no longer ‘is there an end of the world,’ but: how many times can we still avoid it?”
Nobel-winning physicist David Gross has just issued a shocking warning: humanity could face extinction within the next 35 years if current trends do not change.
According to him, the probability of a nuclear war has now increased to about 2% per year (meaning 1/50). With this level of risk, the “expected lifespan” of civilization is only a few decades – a simple statistical calculation but concerning.
Gross believes the global situation is rapidly worsening: arms control treaties are gradually collapsing, the number of nuclear-armed countries is increasing, and the risk of conflict escalation is becoming more apparent.
He especially warns about the combination of nuclear weapons, automation, and AI, which could make control more dangerous than ever before.
The final message is quite simple but serious: if countries do not return to dialogue and arms control, the “self-destruct” scenario for humanity is no longer a fiction. #nuclear
