I just saw some news and I can't sit still anymore.
Quantum computers have actually broken a Bitcoin address for the first time.
It's not just a lab simulation; someone actually did it.
A hacker, using quantum computing power that can be rented through public channels, cracked a 15-digit elliptic curve encryption key. That's the kind of ECC key we often talk about.
Although 15 digits seem short, it means the "lock" has really been picked.
Even more concerning are the following numbers:
Currently, about 6.9 million Bitcoins are quietly sitting in old addresses where the public keys have long been exposed.
These addresses still use 256-bit ECC. If quantum computing advances another step and breaks through this layer as well, those coins are very likely to be among the first to be emptied.
For the market, this is truly a sleep-depriving piece of news.
