IMO Secretary-General Dömenges stated that the organization is working with multiple parties to plan the evacuation of trapped sailors in the Persian Gulf, which can be implemented once safety conditions are met. Dömenges pointed out during a briefing on the Strait of Hormuz situation that the evacuation plan includes compiling a list of affected ships, prioritizing based on humanitarian needs, and, when security is assured, using existing navigation separation mechanisms for evacuation. He emphasized that all parties involved in the conflict must agree to cease attacks on maritime targets during the operation to ensure the smooth progress of the evacuation.
