Just saw that the MetaMask debit card has finally been fully launched in the United States. It was tested in Europe for over a year, and now even strict places like New York have approved it. Honestly, I’m quite optimistic about this direction.

The most interesting thing about the MetaMask card is that you don’t need to transfer cryptocurrencies to an exchange before spending; you can directly use USDC, USDT, or wETH on the Linea network to make purchases. It sounds simple, but this is a pretty big change for many people. Plus, it supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, making it no different from regular bank cards.

What attracts me the most is that they also offer on-chain yields for idle balances, effectively integrating DeFi yield mechanisms directly into everyday spending tools. The MetaMask product manager said they want to make cryptocurrencies “disappear,” meaning they aim to make it seamless so that users don’t even notice. From buying coffee in the morning to ordering an engagement ring, this card can be used for everything.

Of course, there are competitors doing similar things, but most still require you to deposit tokens into their platforms first. MetaMask’s approach is definitely different. Some people are already using it worldwide, and now US users can finally join in. If they continue to optimize the experience, the penetration rate of this card should be pretty good. Oh, and there’s also the premium MetaMask Metal card, with an annual fee of $199.

Have any of you used it? Or are you still on the fence?
