On April 21, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in Beijing with Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee Politburo member and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Sakhon Sounthavong, who was visiting as the special envoy of Lao President Thongloun. Wang Yi said that the two sides should strengthen institutional dialogue between their governments, promote the quality and efficiency of the China-Laos Railway connection, jointly create an upgraded version of the China-Laos Economic Corridor, and achieve more visible results in regional connectivity development. China is willing to leverage its own advantages, align with the development strategies of both countries, strengthen cooperation across the entire industrial chain in minerals, electricity, and other sectors, deepen human resource development, and support Lao economic transformation and industrial development.
