I found it interesting what Sam Altman mentioned in the latest AMA about the possibility of nationalizing OpenAI. Basically, he made it clear that he cannot predict what would happen if the U.S. government actually tried to nationalize the company or other AI projects, but he has a very clear view on it.

The main point that caught my attention was when he mentioned that, over time, perhaps a government-led AGI model would be more appropriate. Sounds contradictory, right? But he was very specific: given the current development trajectory that OpenAI is following, nationalization itself is not highly likely anyway.

What he really emphasized was something I think is fundamental: close collaboration between government and AI companies is extremely important. It’s not just a suggestion; it’s practically a necessity. And here’s a point that many people completely ignore – folks tend to assume the security level of these technologies is guaranteed, but they completely underestimate the huge efforts and investments behind it.

He sees this as generally positive, but made it clear that it deserves much more respect and understanding. It makes sense. Building an appropriate approach for AGI isn’t a joke; it involves security, regulation, and collaboration issues that are still being defined. The truth is, this conversation between government and tech about what’s appropriate for the future of AI will be crucial in the coming years.
