Insider: Email Reveals U.S. Plans to 'Kick Out' Spain from NATO Due to Disagreements on Iran

On April 24, a U.S. official revealed to Reuters that an internal Pentagon email outlined punitive measures against NATO allies deemed unhelpful in supporting U.S. military actions in the war with Iran. These measures include suspending Spain’s NATO membership and reassessing the U.S. stance on the UK’s claims of sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. The official stated that the relevant policy options were detailed in a memorandum expressing dissatisfaction with certain allies’ unwillingness or refusal to provide access, troop presence, and overflight rights (referred to as ABO) during the Iran war. The official noted that the email indicated ABO is ‘merely the absolute baseline for NATO’ and added that these proposals have been widely discussed at high levels within the Pentagon. The official also mentioned that one proposal discussed in the email envisions excluding ‘underperforming’ countries from important or influential positions within NATO. (Dongxin News Agency)
