TVA, Tenaska investing $300M into Hawkins Co. battery storage system

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Tenaska are investing $300 million to build a new 225-megawatt battery storage system in Hawkins County, Tennessee’s Phipps Bend Industrial Park. The “Bobwhite Energy Storage Project” will operate similarly to charging a cell phone, storing energy during off-peak hours and releasing it during peak demand. This 20-year agreement is expected to generate approximately $1 million in annual property tax revenue for Hawkins County, with construction slated to begin in 2027 and the system coming online in 2029.
