National Intellectual Property Administration: AI, Chips, and Brain-Computer Interfaces Included in 'Fast Protection' Channel

On April 24, how to protect content generated by artificial intelligence? What to do if chip layout designs face infringement? At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on April 24, Guo Wen, spokesperson for the National Intellectual Property Administration and Director of the Intellectual Property Protection Department, stated that efforts will be made from three aspects: system, service, and application, to create a ‘protection network’ for innovation in emerging fields. Guo Wen explained that having a system is not enough; innovation entities must also be able to ‘make use of it.’ The National Intellectual Property Administration has further optimized patent examination policies, providing various channels such as prioritized and expedited examinations. To date, a total of 890 items related to new industries and business formats, including big data and artificial intelligence, have been publicly disclosed, effectively addressing practical issues such as the lack of corresponding items for trademark registration and unclear protection boundaries in emerging fields. Notably, 82 national-level intellectual property protection centers have been established across the country, covering cutting-edge directions and key areas such as artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, quantum technology, and brain-computer interfaces, effectively meeting the ‘fast protection’ needs of innovation entities.
