I just saw that GameStop recently launched a pretty interesting digital card opening platform called Power Packs, in partnership with PSA. Honestly, the trading card market has been stuck in a deadlock for so many years—if you pull a good card and want to sell it, the value difference between graded and ungraded cards is huge, and grading takes a long time plus costs a lot of money.
This platform directly solves that problem. After buying a card pack, you can open and view the cards immediately, and PSA grading and storage are all handled for you. You can instantly choose to sell, ship back home, or hold onto the cards. The key is—you can sell directly without going through those complicated processes. It seems much more convenient for people who want to play with Pokémon Power Packs or other trading cards.
The packaging prices range from $25 to $2,500, and the market size is $15 billion. If it really can solve liquidity issues, the trading card market could see some significant changes. Has anyone tried it yet?
