Cuba's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms: Cuba and the United States delegations hold a meeting

Cuba’s foreign ministry official responsible for U.S. affairs, Del Toro, confirmed that officials from both Cuba and the United States recently held a meeting in Havana. Del Toro said, “This is a sensitive topic, and as we said earlier, we are handling it with caution.” But he also confirmed that “a meeting between a Cuban delegation and a U.S. delegation indeed took place in Cuba recently.” He said the U.S. delegation was made up of officials at the level of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State from the State Department, while the Cuban side included officials at the level of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Del Toro emphasized that at this meeting, neither side set a deadline or made any binding demands, and the entire exchange was conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and professionalism. He also noted that “the lifting of the energy blockade against our country is the top priority for our delegation,” and described the blockade as “a global extortion against sovereign states.” (CCTV News)
