Lightning Network’s channel imbalance problem keeps weakening Bitcoin routing

Bitcoin’s Lightning Network capacity fell from above 5,600 BTC in December 2025 to 4,884 today as routing nodes kept facing recurring channel imbalances. Payment channels also dropped from more than 80,000 in mid-2023 to about 45,000 today, while operators still lack a cheap way to coordinate rebalancing.
