The overall revenue of the national performance market in 2025 exceeds 83.7 billion yuan
According to monitoring and research calculations by the Ticketing Information Collection Platform of the China Performing Arts Industry Association, in 2025, the overall revenue of the national performance market reached RMB 83.7222 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.19%. The number of commercial performances nationwide (excluding performances in entertainment venues) was 640,400 shows, and the number of audience members was 194 million person-times. This was introduced by Liu Kezhi, Chairman of the China Performing Arts Industry Association, at the main forum of the 2026 China (Hohhot) Performance Trade Fair on April 21.
In 2025, the national performance market showed a vigorous development trend, with various new industries, new scenes, and new models accelerating their emergence, and the underlying tone of high-quality development in the industry becoming increasingly distinct. “Large-scale performances have continued to stay hot, becoming a powerful engine for driving cultural and tourism consumption; excellent productions have kept emerging, continuously stimulating creative vitality; and small theaters and new performing-arts spaces are gradually forming a cluster development trend.” Liu Kezhi said. He added that the performance market has now entered a new stage—from content supply to experiential scenes, and from a single box-office economy to an ecosystem-based economy—forming a new pattern of “content first, cultural tourism symbiosis, experience as the top priority, and digital empowerment.”
The 2026 China (Hohhot) Performance Trade Fair, hosted by the China Performing Arts Industry Association, opened in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, on the day of the event. The fair will last for 3 days and will hold a series of events, including the 9th National Theater Conference, a special forum on stage art creation and the market, a special forum on the live music market, and the 3rd Stage and Stage Design Enterprise Conference.
