BIS Report Warns Crypto Exchanges Are Taking On Shadow Banking Risks
A 38-page BIS report said crypto exchanges increasingly offer lending and yield products that resemble banking services without traditional safeguards. The authors said fast-growing earn products are often marketed as passive income even though they function more like unsecured lending. The report cited Celsius, FTX, and the October 2025 flash crash that triggered an estimated $19 billion in forced liquidations as examples of how leverage and opacity can hurt users.
