The U.S. Department of Justice Launches Compensation Program for OneCoin Victims
CryptoWorld News reports that, according to The Daily HODL, the U.S. Department of Justice has announced the launch of a compensation process for victims of the OneCoin cryptocurrency scam, with over $40 million in recovered assets available for distribution. The scam was operated by Ruja Ignatova and Karl Sebastian Greenwood between 2014 and 2019, resulting in global investor losses exceeding $4 billion. OneCoin was promoted as a legitimate cryptocurrency but was later exposed as a fraud. The Department of Justice stated that victims who purchased OneCoin can recover part of their losses through the compensation process, and claims must be submitted via the official application system before June 30. The DOJ also warned victims to beware of secondary scams and emphasized that participating in the compensation process does not require any payment. This case is one of the largest cryptocurrency scams in history and efforts are ongoing to identify and recover more assets.
