Crypto news: According to TechCrunch, hackers recently stole more than $290 million worth of cryptocurrency from the Kelp DAO protocol, marking the largest crypto theft incident this year to date. The LayerZero project, on Monday, accused North Korea of carrying out the theft. The hackers used Kelp DAO’s LayerZero bridging technology to launch the attack, taking advantage of its security configuration vulnerabilities. They approved transactions without requiring multi-factor verification, thereby carrying out fraudulent transactions. The company said that “initial signs” indicate that the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor may be behind the scheme. In recent years, North Korean hackers have performed well in crypto theft; last year, they stole more than $2 billion, and combined with that, since 2017 North Korea has stolen a total of roughly $6 billion worth of cryptocurrency.
