I have been living in Texas for 6 years and have come to the conclusion that the idea of not paying state income tax is just a story.

Property taxes are so high that they eat up any savings you might have.
In the end, we pay almost the same taxes in Texas as we would in California. The only thing that saves us is what we save on gas.
