On the 22nd local time, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed at a routine press conference that a French peacekeeper who was seriously injured in an attack while on a mission in southern Lebanon has died. Dujarric stated that the French peacekeeper was a professional military dog trainer. On April 18th, the explosive ordnance disposal team to which the peacekeeper belonged was suddenly attacked by gunfire in southern Lebanon. The United Nations reiterated that attacking peacekeepers is absolutely unacceptable, strongly urging relevant parties to conduct a thorough investigation immediately and to prosecute and hold responsible those accountable. Furthermore, the humanitarian aid needs within Lebanon have far exceeded the current scale of international assistance. The UN once again calls on the international community to increase support to help alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis. (CCTV News)
