According to monitoring by Beating, Bloomberg reported that tens of thousands of people gathered outside Samsung Electronics’ main chip production facility, demanding a larger share of the profits generated by the AI boom. Local media reported that approximately 30,000 people participated in the rally held in Pyeongtaek, a city in southern Korea where Samsung’s large semiconductor complex is located, while organizers claimed the number reached 39,000. The Samsung union is demanding that 15% of the company’s operating profits be distributed to employees in the chip division. Based on this percentage (over 40 trillion won, approximately 27 billion USD), each employee could potentially receive over 400,000 USD.
