Indonesia's local sulfuric acid supply is tight

According to SMM research, Indonesia’s three major copper smelters (Freeport Manyar—production recovery hindered after the fire + concentrate shortage, Amman—equipment damage during maintenance in the first half of 2026, PT Smelting—long-term supply agreement with state-owned fertilizer giant Pupuk Indonesia) are operating at low load or have long-term contract arrangements, leading to a severe shortage of sulfuric acid, a critical chemical raw material, in Indonesia’s domestic supply.
