Google CEO Pichai says this year will invest $185 billion to promote the AI agent era

Techub News reports that, according to Decrypt, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said at the Google Cloud Next event in Las Vegas that the company plans to invest between $175 billion and $185 billion this year in AI and cloud infrastructure to support what it calls the “agentic AI era.” Pichai said that currently, nearly 75% of Google’s new code is generated by AI and reviewed by engineers, a significant increase from 50% last fall.

This increase in spending reflects the company’s efforts to compete with Microsoft, Amazon, and OpenAI, as the industry shifts from chatbots to autonomous AI agents. Pichai revealed that Google is applying AI to cybersecurity operations, reducing threat mitigation time by more than 90%. In addition, the company announced the establishment of a $750 million partner fund and partnerships with Citibank and Thinking Machines Lab to promote the commercial application of AI agent technology.
