Do you know what was truly important for the development of Биткойн? More than 15 years ago, in 2010, Satoshi released version 0.2.6 of the client. At first glance, it may seem like just another update, but in reality, it was a turning point.
Before that, everything worked through a graphical interface on the desktop, which was convenient for home users, but completely impractical for servers. Satoshi understood that the network would not be able to scale if it depended on a GUI. Therefore, in 0.2.6, the developer removed this dependency and created the possibility for fully automated operation on the server side.
This may sound technical, but the consequences were enormous. Thanks to this move, Satoshi opened the door for mining pools, full nodes on servers, and all the infrastructure that allowed Биткойн to grow from an experimental project into a real network. Without this update, we probably wouldn’t have what we have today.
It’s precisely these seemingly small decisions that often become critical for the development of technology. The history of Bitcoin is full of such moments, when the right architectural decision determined the entire future course of development.
