Tackling cost reduction: automakers' self-developed chips are gradually being deployed

As in-vehicle intelligence advances, the demand for onboard computing power continues to grow. NIO, FAW Group, XPeng Motors, and Li Auto, among other automakers, are accelerating their independent chip development efforts, with several related progress and achievements recently announced. Industry insiders say that increased intelligence has boosted automakers’ demand for chips and also driven up vehicle costs. Automakers’ self-developed chips can reduce costs on the manufacturer side through large-scale application and other methods, helping to achieve deep integration of hardware and software. However, they also face pressures and risks such as high investment, long development cycles, and high entry barriers. (Economic Information Daily)
