Golden Finance reported that on April 23, the director of the U.S. White House National Economic Council, Hassett, expressed support for Federal Reserve Chair Powell’s plan—namely that if Powell’s successor has not been confirmed by the Senate when his term expires in May, he will temporarily remain as Federal Reserve chair. Hassett said on Wednesday, “I think this is an appropriate legal interpretation.”

Trump has nominated Wosh to succeed Powell, but Republicans currently do not have enough votes to move the nomination from the Senate Banking Committee to the Senate for a confirmation vote. Republican Senator Tom Tillis said he would hold off on voting until the Department of Justice stops the so-called “false” investigation into cost overruns for the Federal Reserve building renovation project. When speaking about Wosh, Hassett said, “We are very confident that he will become chair at the appropriate time. I believe there will be discussions about how to proceed.”(Jin10
