I noticed an interesting trend in the crypto venture sector — funding significantly declined in February. Only 62 deals and $866 million in investments, which is almost half of what it was a year ago. Compared to January, it's also down 46%, so February was quite a slow month.
Interestingly, despite the overall decline, DeFi projects still dominate — they accounted for nearly a third of all venture deals. AI projects hold second place with 11.3%, while CeFi lags behind at 9.7%. It seems investors still believe in decentralized finance, even as overall venture interest weakens.
Overall, a 71% year-over-year drop is serious. It appears venture capital in crypto is becoming more selective, and not all projects can attract funding as easily as before.
