"Today's decline is nothing," retired Buffett talks about the market, restarting charity lunch auctions
Ask AI · How does Buffett view investment opportunities amid current market volatility?
China News Network, April 1—On March 31, local time, renowned investor Warren Buffett was interviewed by CNBC, and discussed his recent status after stepping down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (hereinafter referred to as Berkshire).
Still involved in investment decisions
Buffett said that although he has stepped down as CEO of Berkshire for some time, he still closely participates in the company’s investment decisions, and has recently just made a “small” new acquisition.
On December 31, 2025, Buffett, 95 years old, officially retired. Now, he still walks into the office every day, trades with colleagues, and stays in touch with the market. Buffett described a routine, which includes calling Berkshire’s director of financial assets before the opening bell rings to discuss developments in the market.
Regarding recent market volatility, reports say Buffett suggested that the current situation has not yet reached a period of major buying opportunities. “Since I took over, the market has fallen more than 50% at least three times, and this decline is nothing,” Buffett said.
Buffett also revealed that Berkshire this week bought $17 billion worth of government bonds in a U.S. Treasury auction. Previously, the company reported that as of the end of the year, its cash equivalents on its books exceeded $370 billion, most of which were government bonds.
Resuming the charity lunch auction
In addition to sharing his assessment of the current market, Buffett also announced the resumption of the charity lunch auction.
Reports say Buffett will participate in a new fundraising auction together with NBA great Stephen Curry and his wife, combining an investment idol’s appeal with celebrities’ attraction. The proceeds will be donated to public-interest organizations to support vulnerable groups and children’s development programs.
The auction will kick off on May 7, local time. The winning bidder will have lunch with Buffett and Curry’s family in Omaha on June 24, along with up to 7 guests.
Reports say Buffett held his last lunch in 2022. That auction reached a record-high $19 million, and helped bring the total fundraising for this 20-year charity event to over $50 million. (China News Network APP)
