BMW North America Executive: BMW will continue to produce sedans.
Sebastian Mackensen, head of BMW North America, stated that despite the United States imposing tariffs on imported German cars and the sales of SUVs being far higher than sedans, BMW will continue to produce sedans. Mackensen made this statement in an interview on Tuesday. The next day, BMW released a new full-size 7 Series sedan, which incorporates a series of design and technological features originally developed for electric vehicles by BMW. Robby DeGraaf, product and consumer insights manager at automotive research firm AutoPacific, said, “Tariff factors will inevitably have an impact. I don’t think BMW will move the 7 Series production line to the U.S., so the automaker must closely monitor market demand and actual sales to determine whether continuing to import the 7 Series is still worthwhile.” He added that, given the decline in electric vehicle sales in the U.S., the all-electric i7 faces greater risks.
