Interesting changes are happening recently in the prediction market ecosystem. While platforms like Polymarket in the West focus on financialization and institutional expansion, the Eastern markets are experiencing a completely different kind of growth.

A platform called Opinion Labs is gaining attention, actively leveraging the cultural characteristics and content-driven dynamics of the Eastern market. Notably, during this year's Korean presidential election, it recorded a trading volume of $52 million. To compare, Polymarket's volume during the same period was around $400k.

The key question is how they managed to generate such trading volume. They are using AI technology to transform dispersed opinions into structured markets. This means they can quickly create markets without spam.

It seems that Primitive Ventures' investment in Opinion Labs stems from this background. Primitive emphasized that prediction markets could expand beyond just global events to include a variety of culturally relevant topics.

Ultimately, Primitive's decision suggests they see the potential for prediction markets to evolve into mechanisms for organizing and trading beliefs in a decentralized world. As the divide between Eastern and Western markets deepens, there appears to be ample room for platforms tailored to each region's characteristics to grow.
