Wow, X just surrendered to the European Union. After a 120 million euro fine, they presented a plan to overhaul the entire verification system with a checkmark. It turns out the EU was unhappy that people could simply buy a blue checkmark, and it looked like outright user deception.



Moreover, X failed to meet transparency requirements in the advertising library and didn't provide researchers with proper access to data at all. The Digital Services Act demands a completely different approach, and X just ignored it. I wonder how they'll now verify the checkmark—honestly or will they keep looking for loopholes? Europe doesn't joke around with such fines.
