On April 22, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reiterated that Gulf Arab states may still face the risk of submarine data cables in the Strait of Hormuz being cut. The agency reported, “If multiple major cables are damaged simultaneously, whether due to accidents or sabotage, it could lead to severe network disruptions in the Persian Gulf.” Several cables traverse the Strait of Hormuz. The Gulf region has previously experienced network outages due to repeated cuts to submarine cables in the Red Sea. The Houthi forces in Yemen had also previously issued threats regarding the cables.
