Just now, I was watching the mempool, and during congestion, it really feels like rush hour on the subway: you think clicking "send" is the end, but actually you're just taking a number and standing in line. If you set the gas too low, you'll have to wait patiently, while others keep cutting in line (with higher fees), and your transaction might get stuck until it expires or is finally included in a block. The price is no longer the "mental price" you saw when you clicked confirm. What's more awkward is that sometimes, after speeding up once, both transactions end up stuck there, blocking each other...

Recently, the community has been arguing whether the extreme fee rates are a reversal or just an ongoing bubble. I tend to first check if the chain is congested again: during congestion, emotions are more prone to distortion, and transactions seem more like they are arranged by a "queue." Anyway, now I always glance at the queue status before placing an order. If I can tolerate it, I set a limit order and go slow; if I can't, I just pay the toll.
