Recently, I came across the story of Mauro Viale and Leonor Schwadron, and honestly, I couldn't stop reading it all the way through. It's one of those stories that makes you believe true love really exists, you know? Almost 50 years together, since they were teenagers. That’s almost unthinkable today.

It all started like this: he was 18 years old, working as a credit agent at a cooperative, nothing extraordinary in terms of money. But when he saw Leonor Schwadron on a movie outing with mutual friends, he was completely captivated. She was almost the same age, and apparently, what she saw in that tall, handsome guy was enough. Mauro didn’t even notice what movie was playing that day; he was too busy looking at her. Then he asked for her number, and well, the rest is history.

What’s interesting is that while Mauro was starting to make a name for himself in the media, Leonor Schwadron was the one holding everything together from behind the scenes. She was a psychologist, so she understood well how things work. They had two children, Ivana, who also pursued psychology, and Jonatan, who followed in his father’s footsteps in journalism. Jonatan is now on LN+ and Radio Rivadavia, so the legacy continued.

Mauro was a workaholic of the old school. As soon as he was home, he was always involved in the media. Leonor was the one who truly raised the kids, who was attentive to everything. But she never resented her husband’s vocation, you know? That’s also important to highlight. When the children grew up, she deepened her career as a psychologist, even participating in Mauro’s TV programs talking about psychological topics. It was clear that both were proud of each other.

In recent years, Leonor Schwadron constantly advised Mauro to take care of his health, not to overwork himself so much. But he remained the same, unable to slow down. It was COVID that finally stopped him. Mauro passed away at 73 not long ago, after complications from the illness. Leonor couldn’t even be present at the funeral because she was a close contact. Only Jonatan and his wife could accompany the body to the La Tablada cemetery.

What impacted me the most is that after everything, after 50 years together, building a family, supporting each other through everything, Leonor was left alone in that big apartment in Palermo without her partner. Without being able to say goodbye the way he deserved. But well, the story of Mauro Viale and Leonor Schwadron will remain as what they said at the beginning: a couple like the ones of the old days, without pretenses, without betrayals. Almost perfect, so perfect that it would even be boring for a novel.
