I just found out that in Edomex, they changed the fines for expired licenses a few months ago. It turns out that now it's not a fixed amount but depends on your violation history, so if you have previous infractions, they can charge you up to $2,346.20 pesos. Before, it was roughly fixed at $1,810, but with the UMA update to $117.31 pesos, everything became more expensive. The worst part is that in addition to the fine for an expired license, your car is impounded and taken to the pound, so it ends up costing double. If you have no pending fines, they only charge you $1,876.96 pesos, but if you already have accumulated traffic violations, that amount increases quite a bit. It seems they also increased fines for other infractions like parking in a prohibited area and speeding. Supposedly, while they were consolidating the fine database, they applied the minimum amount to everyone, but now it should be complete. Has anyone else come across this in Edomex lately?
