Just realized a lot of people don't know how straightforward it is to update your SRD banking details these days. The whole process is actually online now, which makes sense given how many people are using the SRD R370 grant. You basically go to the official SASSA SRD portal, punch in your 13-digit ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click the link, enter your new bank account info, and you're done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify everything, but way easier than having to go to an office. One thing though—make sure the account is in your name exactly as it appears on your ID. SASSA won't transfer money into joint accounts or anything like that, so don't even bother trying. If you're having trouble with the online portal (which does happen sometimes), you can always call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just walk into a local SASSA office. But honestly, most people find the online method works fine. Also worth noting that if you're getting cash transfers instead, your phone number has to be RICA-compliant, so keep that in mind. The whole point of updating your SRD banking details online is that it's supposed to be quick and secure, so just stick with the official website and you'll be good.
