US-Iran Tensions Escalate as Iran Refuses Negotiation; US Extends Ceasefire but Maintains Naval Blockade
On April 22, just before the expiration of the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, tensions sharply escalated. Iran refused to attend the negotiations scheduled for the 22nd in Islamabad, accusing the US of obstructing the achievement of a substantial agreement. On the same day, US President Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire at Pakistan’s request but threatened that once the deadline passed, the US would resume bombing Iran while maintaining the naval blockade and expanding sanctions against Iran. US Vice President Pence canceled his trip to Pakistan. Currently, Iran has blocked the entrances to the Strait of Hormuz and publicly displayed ballistic missiles in Tehran, claiming it is fully prepared for renewed hostilities. (CCTV)
