Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA grant payment info, especially with the December payments coming up. Figured I'd share what I learned because getting this wrong means your money gets held up.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you can't just do it online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. They'll give you a form, and you need to bring your original ID plus proof of your new bank account (bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from the bank). The account has to be in YOUR name only - no joint accounts or anything. Once they process it, it takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. And here's the critical part: if you want it to take effect next month, you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that and you wait another cycle.

But if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way different - basically everything is online now. You go to their portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. You update your bank details through that link, and boom, it's done within a few days to a couple weeks. Same rule though - the account must be registered in your name.

Phone number updates work the same way depending on your grant type. Permanent grants, you call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. SRD status change for your phone number? That's all through their contact portal - they send you an OTP to verify it's actually you.

One heads up though: there are fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA. Always use the official portal or call the real number. Don't get caught slipping with your personal info.
