Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update banking details on SASSA, especially with the December payments coming. Let me break this down because it's actually different depending on which grant you're getting.

If you're on permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you can't do this online unfortunately. You have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office and fill out the Payment Method Change Form. They'll need your valid ID, a bank statement from the last 3 months, or a letter from your bank confirming the account is active. Important thing - the account has to be in YOUR name only, no joint accounts or anything like that. Once you submit, it takes up to 21 days to process, so if you want it to work for next month's payment, you need to submit before the 15th of the current month.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's way easier. You can update banking details online through the official SASSA SRD portal. Just enter your ID number, they'll send you a secure link via SMS, and you follow the prompts to enter your new bank details. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for verification. Same rule applies though - account must be in your name.

For updating your phone number on SRD, there's a dedicated contact portal where you enter your ID and application number, put in your new number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. Pretty straightforward. If the online thing isn't working for you, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person.

One more thing - be careful with fake websites claiming they can help you change your grant details. Always use the official SASSA links only. Your personal info is too important to mess around with sketchy sites.
