Deep Tide TechFlow News, April 22, according to Axios, citing U.S. officials, Trump paused a controversial maritime law, the Jones Act, during the Iran war, making oil transportation within the U.S. more convenient—and now he wants to maintain this status. The 1920 law known as the Jones Act increased shipping costs between U.S. ports, requiring cargo to be transported by ships flying the American flag. To address rising fuel prices caused by the Iran conflict, Trump issued a 60-day waiver of this law on March 18 to simplify oil transportation. According to data from the White House, since then, 40 oil tankers have been able to transport oil between U.S. ports from California to Texas, Florida, and Alaska, increasing the actual fleet size by 70%, thereby helping to lower costs.
