On April 2nd, local time, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal had a phone call that day, during which both sides expressed serious concern over the ongoing deterioration of the military and political situation in the Persian Gulf region. Both sides emphasized that military confrontation must be stopped as soon as possible, as such conflicts lead to civilian casualties and cause serious damage to civilian infrastructure, including to countries not directly involved in the military conflict. The two sides confirmed that efforts to pursue political and diplomatic solutions should be intensified to peacefully resolve the crisis in the Middle East, based on international law and taking into account the legitimate interests of all countries in the region. Against this background, both sides stated their firm commitment to maintaining close diplomatic policy coordination between Russia and Saudi Arabia, especially within the framework of the United Nations.
