Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially the banking info. Been helping some family members through this and it's actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're on the SRD grant, the good news is you can actually change your banking details online now. You don't need to go anywhere. Just hit up the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number (13 digits), and they'll send you an SMS link. Click that link and you can update your bank account right there. The whole thing is online which makes it way faster than before. Your new bank account gets verified by the bank side, takes a few days to maybe a week or two. Just remember the account has to be in YOUR name, not someone else's.

But if you're getting the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support, whatever), it's more complicated. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person. No online option for those. You fill out their Payment Method Change Form, bring your original ID and a copy, plus proof of your new bank account (bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from the bank). They process it and send it to the bank for verification which can take up to 21 working days. Pro tip: if you need it to work next month, submit before the 15th of this month. Miss that and you're waiting another cycle.

For changing your phone number, similar deal. SRD has an online contact details portal where you enter your ID and application ID, type in your new number, they send you an OTP to verify. Done. For permanent grants, you're back to calling 0800 60 10 11 or visiting the office.

One thing though - there's fake websites out there claiming they can change your SASSA stuff. Don't fall for that. Always use the official SASSA links. Your personal info is too important.
