Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially with December payments coming up. Been seeing questions about this everywhere, so figured I'd share what I learned.

So if you're on the SRD R370 grant, the good news is you can actually do most of this online now. To change your SRD bank details, you basically go to the official SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure SMS link. Then you follow the prompts to add your new bank account info. The whole thing's electronic, which honestly makes it way easier than it used to be. Just remember the account has to be in your name only - no joint accounts or anything like that. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify it though, so don't panic if it's not instant.

For updating your phone number on SRD, same deal - there's a contact portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, add your new number, and they send an OTP to verify. Pretty straightforward if you use the official link. Real talk though, there are sketchy fake websites out there claiming they can change your grant details, so always make sure you're on the actual SASSA portal. Not worth risking your info.

Now, if you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, it's a whole different story. You literally have to go in person to a SASSA office - can't do it online at all. You fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your original ID, and proof of your new bank account (like a bank statement from the last three months or a letter from your bank). They send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. Important thing: if you want the change to happen next month, you need to submit it before the 15th of the current month. Miss that deadline and you're stuck with the old payment method for another cycle.

For changing your phone number on permanent grants, you're also looking at visiting the office or calling the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11. Some stuff can be done over the phone, but they might still need you to come in depending on what you're changing.

Basically, SRD is the smooth online experience, permanent grants need the in-person hustle. Either way, get it sorted before the 15th if you want it to take effect next month.
