Just realized so many people don't know how to properly check their SRD status and end up missing payments or getting confused about what each result means. Thought I'd share what I learned.
So basically if you're applying for the SASSA SRD grant (the temporary financial assistance for unemployed folks), you need to check your srd status regularly. I know it sounds obvious but honestly most people just apply and then forget about it. Big mistake.
When you go online to check, you'll see different results - approved means your payment's coming through, pending means they're still verifying your info, and declined means something went wrong. The declined part is what trips people up. Usually it's because they put wrong details, already have income registered, or there's a bank verification issue.
If you get declined don't panic. You can appeal it or just reapply if your previous application expired. The key is making sure all your personal information is actually correct - ID number, phone number, bank details, all of it. So many rejections happen just because someone entered something wrong.
Checking your srd status takes like two minutes online, and honestly you should do it regularly. Some people also use SMS or WhatsApp if they don't have good internet. The whole process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on how many applications they're processing.
Basically the whole thing works better if you just stay on top of it. Keep your details updated, check your status every week or so, and respond quickly if they ask for anything. Seems like people who actually pay attention to their application get approved faster. Just my observation but definitely worth doing it right the first time instead of dealing with rejections.
