Just realized I needed to update my SASSA details and honestly, the process is different depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you can't just do it online—you have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. They'll give you a Payment Method Change Form, and you need to bring your ID and proof of your new bank account (like a recent bank statement). Takes up to 21 days to process after they send it to the bank, so if you want it sorted by next month's payment, submit before the 15th.

But here's the thing—if you're on the SRD R350 grant, it's way easier. Everything's online through the SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you can change your account number and banking details right there. Just make sure your bank account is in your own name; they won't pay into joint accounts or anything. The verification takes a few days to a couple weeks.

Phone number changes work the same way—permanent grants require a visit or a call to 0800 60 10 11, but SRD has an online contact portal where you enter your ID, Application ID, and new number. You'll get an OTP sent to confirm. One warning though: there are fake websites out there pretending to be SASSA, so always use the official portal. If the online thing gives you trouble, just call or visit your local office. People have been catching on to this lately, especially with the R350, so better to do it properly than risk delays.
