Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to adding banking details for the R350 and other grants. Let me break down what I've learned because honestly, the process is different depending on which grant you're on.
If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you basically can't do this online. You need to actually go to your nearest SASSA office with your ID and proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement or letter works). They'll give you a form to fill out, and then it takes up to 3 weeks for the bank to verify everything. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to kick in the next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.
Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way simpler because it's all digital. You go to the SASSA SRD website, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS. Click the link, add your banking details, and you're done. Just make sure the account is actually in your name—they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that.
Same thing with updating your phone number. For permanent grants, you either call 0800 60 10 11 or go in person. For SRD, there's an online portal where you can change it, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. One heads up though: there are fake websites out there trying to scam people into giving their details, so always use the official SASSA links.
The whole thing is honestly frustrating because it's not one-size-fits-all, but once you know which process applies to your grant, it's manageable. Just don't use unofficial sites or you'll regret it.
