Iran Declines to Attend US-Iran Talks on April 22
On April 22, Iran’s negotiating team announced through a Pakistani intermediary that they would not travel to Islamabad, Pakistan, for talks with the US due to various reasons, and there is currently no possibility of participating in the negotiations. Sources indicate that after Pakistan intervened to mediate and requested a ceasefire from the US, Iran accepted the ceasefire agreement and agreed to subsequent negotiations to end the war based on a ten-point framework proposed by Iran and accepted by the US. Pakistan also clearly announced that the US accepted this framework. However, in the following days, the US began to violate its commitments. Additionally, during the first round of talks held in Islamabad, the US made many excessive demands that effectively violated the initial framework, leading to a deadlock in the negotiations. Sources also stated that in recent communications, the US has insisted on its excessive demands, which infringe upon the absolute rights of the Iranian people, and there has been no substantial progress in the exchanges between the two sides. Therefore, Iran ultimately announced today that under these circumstances, participating in the negotiations would be a waste of time, as the US is obstructing the achievement of any substantive agreement.
