Just realized so many of us are sitting on outdated banking info with SASSA. If you're getting the SRD R370 grant, updating your bank details is actually pretty straightforward now—they made it fully online so you don't have to queue at an office. Just hit the official SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure link via SMS. Input your new account details and you're done. Takes a few days to verify but way easier than the old way.
Now if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), that's a whole different story. You HAVE to go to a SASSA office in person—no shortcuts. Bring your original ID, a recent bank statement or official letter from your bank, and fill out their Payment Method Change Form. Fair warning: it can take up to 21 working days for the change to process, so submit before the 15th of the month if you want it active next cycle. And they'll reject any account that's not solely in your name, so no joint accounts or anything like that.
Changing your cellphone number? For SRD it's also online through their contact portal—you'll get an OTP sent to your new number to verify. For permanent grants, call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just visit your local office. One heads up though: there are fake websites out there pretending to help you update SRD bank details and phone numbers. Only use the official SASSA links or you could lose access to your grant. Stay safe with this stuff.
