So you need to sort out your SASSA grant payments? Here's what actually works, whether you're on a permanent grant or the SRD R370.

If you're getting permanent grants like disability or old age, you can't just update your banking details online - you have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. Bring your ID (original and copy) and recent bank statement (less than 3 months old) showing the new account in your name only. Fill out the Payment Method Change Form and they'll process it. Takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify, so if you want it active next month, submit before the 15th. If you miss that, you're waiting another cycle.

But here's the thing - if you're on SRD, it's completely different. You can actually srd update bank details online through the official SASSA SRD portal. Just enter your 13-digit ID number, they'll send a secure SMS link to your registered phone, click it, enter your new bank account info, and you're done. The bank takes a few days to verify, then future payments go to the new account.

Changing your phone number? For SRD, use the contact details portal - enter your ID and Application ID, add the new number, they'll send an OTP to confirm. For permanent grants, call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office.

Real talk though - stick to official SASSA channels only. There are fake websites out there trying to scam people. If the online process gets messy, just call them or go in person. It's slower but actually secure.
