Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details, especially if you're on permanent grants. Like, you can't just do it online—you actually have to go to the office in person. They need your valid ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than three months works), and they'll process it through a form. Takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify everything. Pro tip: if you want it to work for next month's payment, submit before the 15th.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's different. The whole thing is online, which is actually pretty convenient. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Then you just input your new banking details and submit. One thing though—the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. They won't process it otherwise.

If you need to change your cellphone number too, same deal depends on what grant you're on. Permanent grants? Go to the office or call 0800 60 10 11. SRD? Use their contact portal, enter your ID and Application ID, put in the new number, and they'll send an OTP to verify. Honestly, if the online stuff gets confusing, just call or visit in person—it's safer anyway and you avoid those fake websites trying to scam people.
